Hence we need to convert AC into DC for most of the home appliances. There are many types of circuits for AC to DC conversion , they are known as rectifiers. Here we have shown a simple half wave rectifier. The circuits introduces two concepts, one : the AC current flows in two directions and second: One diode can convert AC power into DC. In the circuit at Input section, the current is AC hence both the LEDs will glow after passing through diode D5, it gets converted into DC hence only the LED connected in forward mode will turn on.
