Diode and Capaciotor as a Voltage Multiplier

Voltage multipliers can be used to generate from a few volts for electronic appliances, to millions of volts for purposes such as high-energy physics experiments and lightning safety testing.A voltage multiplier is an electrical circuit that converts AC electrical power from a lower voltage to a higher DC voltage, typically using a network of capacitors and diodes.

It produces a DC multiple (2,3,4, etc) of the AC peak input voltage. Here in the given circuit diagram, we have made a half wave doubler. During the negetive half cycle of the Input AC, the capacitor C1 charges upto peak input voltage and during positive half cycle it discharges through D2 giving an output of twice of input voltage. Here D2 works as half wave rectifier.
